Quarantine Projects - Sally's Baking Addiction Chocolate Lava Cake

For Mike's birthday this year he requested a chocolate dessert. Let me preface for the 100th time that we are not a cake family, but I figured I'd give it a good old try and see what I could come up with. Being a family of two, making a whole cake where we can't even share it due to quarantine would be a waste, so I decided to go the molten lava cake route with a small twist to please my fiance and I (because if I'm putting in the effort I wanted to like this and it was worth the stomachache!). This recipe makes four 6oz cakes, perfect for when we go and visit my parents for memorial weekend for my father's belated bday (Happy Birthday Papa!).

This was the first time I've ever made this type of dessert and I can't stop sharing this awesome recipe from Sally's Baking Addiction. I know molten lava cakes aren't anything new, but adding a little twist to make it your own will do wonders! Cheers!

A couple of changes I made:

1 tsp of orange zest (added to the melting process of the chocolate so the oils could be released)
6 oz of REALLY good dark chocolate bars

Note for Chocolate Used:

- I'd suggest using very dark chocolate (I had CÔTE D’OR – NOIR DE NOIR MIGNONNETTE chocolate in the back of my fridge that needed to go so it was perfect!)
- In any baking using chocolate I tend to use Valrhona bars that I find at my local Trader Joe's, but as Sally suggests, Lindt is a great option as well
