Vacation House Kitchen Essentials

This post is a little different from my normal posts, but with everyone hitting the beach left and right and asking me, "what should I bring for our rental house kitchen", I've got you covered with must haves and nice-to-haves! Of course, this list is mostly for sans flying and I've done these trips enough to know that eating out isn't always the best option, especially over a whole week. Cheers!

Must haves:

Travel Knives: Until I started traveling annually with my in-laws to the beach in the Outer Banks, I had no clue how sparse these rental home kitchens were, let alone the knife block. Save a trip to the hospital and buy a sharp and inexpensive set of cooking knives and use them only for your trips!

Napkins: (Fancier Dinner Napkins) You worked hard at making that dinner for your loved ones! Nothing destroys that vibe harder than a paper towel used as a napkin. If you must go paper, hit Target or Costco for the 2-ply dinner-size napkins. This is also great for lunches out at the pool or beach!

Espresso Pot/French Press and Coffee: Go Big. At one point during our trip with our friends I had to hide the espresso, they were going through it way too quickly. You'd think a bunch of 30 year olds without children had never slept before

Accessory Must Haves:

Chip clips: Keep those chips free of sand for your beach adventures!

Rubberbands: Don't have chip clips? This is the second best thing

Gallon Ziplock bags: Perfect for your fruits, veggies and potato salads for the beach!

Saran Wrap: Got to wrap up your left overs (and believe me, you will have left overs)

Tin Foil: Great for grilling or using on the house owner's cookie sheets. Less clean up too

Cutting Board: Good luck, just bring it. Great as a serving board and a tool. Our friend makes the most gorgeous wood cutting boards and when we finally build him his Instagram and website I'll link his shop

Can Opener: Woof, these must get stolen left and right because I have NEVER been in a rental house that has had a can opener

Wine Bottle Opener/Beer Bottle Opener: duh.

Tongs/Brush/Spatula (for the grill): Ew...the amount of homes we've been in where I'm pretty sure those brushes would give us cancer or the bristles impaling us from the inside, trust me

Trash Bags: Just Do It

Paper Towels/Dish Towels: Quick clean ups are a must!

Dish Brush: The provided sponges have seen better days

Insulated Water Bottle: Fill it with ice and it will stay cold all day. Also perfect for cocktails on the beach

Nice to Haves:

Skewers: For all your basic grilling needs, but you can also buy the wood ones at the grocery store, just make sure to soak them in water for 6 hours before using

Dutch Oven: For the fancier meals, but also great as a wine chiller

Cookie Sheets: High chance on the East Coast you'll have one rainy day, Hurricane season has been earlier and earlier, so perfect for your cut and bakes!

Dishwasher Pods/Dish Soap/Hand Soap: One less thing for you to buy at the grocery store

Water Bottle Insulated Jug: We purchase the gallon and half gallon. Both are WORTH IT, perfect for large batch cocktails for the pool and beach
