This recipe is definitely one of my favorites I have made so far. It's an apple pie in the form of a popsicle, what's not to like? It's simple and easy and the flavors will keep you coming back for more. This ice cream is also perfect to sandwich between two oatmeal cookies!
We tend to go overboard as a family during the fall (really who doesn't in the U.S.), but one of my favorite desserts to make is an apple crumble. It's warm and delicious and I LOVE to make the crumble topping. I tend to make a lot of the topping so what I don't use, I freeze. If you have any topping left over from your crumble this year, make sure to sprinkle some on top of this ice cream! Cheers!
Ingredients:
2 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp ground cardamom
3/4 cup sugar
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup whole milk
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp powdered gelatin
2 tbsp water 2 tbsp rum
Directions:
1. In a medium saucepan on medium heat, add all spices, sugar, vanilla extract, 1 cup heavy cream and milk. Whisk until spices are incorporated and sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and let steep for 30 minutes
2. Once mixture has steeped, strain through a fine mesh sieve into remaining heavy cream. Add mixture back to saucepan and put on low heat
3. Meanwhile, bloom your gelatin in a small glass (take your powdered gelatin and sprinkle it over the cold water and let sit for 3-5 minutes)
4. Add bloomed gelatin to saucepan and whisk until gelatin has dissolved
5. Pour mixture into ice cream maker and freeze follow manufacturer's instructions. Towards the end of the freezing process add the rum and crumble
