Orange Cookies & Cream Ice Cream

Cookies and Cream Ice Cream is iconic. It's one of those flavors you can always count on seeing when you go to your local ice cream shop. This time around I thought I'd elevate this childhood treat with a touch of orange and it's wild (though of course you can leave out the orange if it's not for you). It's floral and delicate so you won't be disappointed! Cheers!

Ingredients:

15 Oreos (chocolate sandwich cookies)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp orange extract
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup whole milk
5 egg yolks
3/4 cup sugar

Directions:

1. In a medium saucepan on medium-low heat, add sugar, 3 Oreos, vanilla extract, orange extract, 1 cup heavy cream and milk. Stir until cookies and sugar have dissolved
2. In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks together. Slowly pour warm mixture into the yolks and return to saucepan on stove on low heat
3. While whisking, bring custard mixture to a temperature of 165-170 degrees Fahrenheit
4. Once mixture is thick, strain into remaining heavy cream and chill at least 8 hours in refrigerator
5. Once chilled pour into ice cream maker and follow the manufacturer’s instruction. Meanwhile crunch up remaining Oreos and add to freezing mixture
