Grape Sorbet

I'm a fall person through and through, but there's just something about summer that makes me incredibly happy and I think it might be all the fruits and vegetables that are made available to us. Let me tell you though, Virginia in the summer time can be miserably hot (especially during a pandemic). Swampy, sticky and full of thunderstorms, BUT that calls for all sorts of icy desserts (big fan of the Slurpee here). As per usual I've been over buying at the Farmer's Market already, on top of what is available at our local supermarket, hence this recipe! I never thought I would be into something like this (not the biggest fan of any grape), but it's surprisingly delicious and extremely refreshing! This will make a pint of sorbet, but you can double the recipe to make more. Cheers!

Ingredients:

2 cups red grapes (go for Concord if you can, but any will work)
1 tsp lemon zest
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup filtered water
1 tbsp vodka

Directions:

1. In a medium saucepan on medium heat, add all ingredients except for vodka
2. Let it come to a boil and reduce heat to low and let simmer for 15-20 minutes until grapes break down fully
3. Remove from heat and let the mixture come to room temperature
4. Once cooled, blend the mixture and strain through a fine sieve
5. Pour grape mixture and vodka into ice cream maker and freeze using manufacturer's instructions
