Candy Bar Ice Cream

This year we maybe had all of two trick-or-treaters. I wouldn't know...I fell asleep on the couch. HOWEVER, I did leave some candy outside our front door and, unless the adult boys across the street helped themselves, the kids who came were very polite and only took a few pieces each. SO, what to do with the leftover Halloween candy? Turn it into ice cream of course, or be boring and take the rest to work....I did both.

A few things to note, to spice up my ice cream I made vanilla ice cream swirled with chocolate ice cream. Totally not necessary, but fun to do. If you wish to have the ice cream solely vanilla, leave out the cocoa  and milk powder. If you want only chocolate ice cream add another tablespoon of cocoa powder. I used a few different chocolate fun-size bars, but it's up to you what to choose. Happy post-Halloween! Cheers!

Ingredients:

3/4 tsp vanilla extract
3 tbsp cocoa powder
1/4 cup milk powder
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup whole milk
2 cups heavy cream
1 tsp pinch salt
4 fun size Butterfinger chopped up
4 fun size Snickers chopped up
4 fun size Twix chopped up

Directions:

1. In a medium saucepan on medium-low heat, add 1 cup heavy cream, sugar, milk and 1/2 tsp vanilla extract. Stir until sugar has dissolved
2. Take half of your mixture and pour into a small bowl. Add remaining vanilla extract and 1/2 cup of heavy cream. Place in fridge to cool
3. Return the other half of your mixture to the heat and add your milk powder and cocoa powder. Stir until everything has fully dissolved. Pour into a small bowl and add your remaining 1/2 cup of heavy cream, place in freezer for 1 hour
4. Once both mixtures have cooled, pour your vanilla mixture into your ice cream maker and start to freeze using manufacturer's instructions. You will be able to get 2 freezing batches out of your ice cream maker, but need to work quickly
5. Once vanilla ice cream has frozen, pour in half of your chopped candy and let churn for a minute until the candy has fully incorporated. Remove ice cream and put in bowl and place in freezer
6. Remove your chocolate ice cream mixture from the freezer and pour into ice cream maker. Once ice cream has frozen add salt and the rest of your candy and mix until fully incorporated
7. Remove vanilla ice cream from freezer. Take your container and alternate both ice creams to create a swirl. Don't mix too vigorously because you will end up with a milk chocolate ice cream! You will get about 1 quart of ice cream with this recipe so make sure your container is big enough to fit this fun treat!
